The Bridge: Connecting Input and Output - The Pillars of Fluency Series

If you’ve been faithfully following this fluency series, you’ll remember some terms we’ve covered so far:

Input â€“ The language you receive/ are exposed to (through listening or reading).

Output â€“ The language you produce (through speaking or writing).

Automaticity â€“ The ability to use language quickly and effortlessly, without stopping to think about every word.

This week, I was thinking about the missing link between input and output. Our brains do not work like a funnel that just lets liquid go inside a container without any changes to it, so there's got to be a link or process in between. In other words, something must happen as we receive input and produce output... Enter “intake”.
