"My English is Terrible"

Raise your hand if you’ve ever said this about your English… I’ve got both hands raised up high! 🙌 If there’s one word I often hear English learners use to describe their English, it’s “terrible.” I guess we should start by understanding what "terrible" actually means. What does the dictionary say about it?

In most dictionaries, the first definition listed for a word is usually the most commonly used meaning of that word. This means that according to the Longman dictionary, the word "terrible" is mostly used to describe something severe that causes harm or damage. For example, a terrible storm causes a lot of harm and damage to a city. Alright, here's an important question: does your English cause harm or damage to others? Can your English really cause bad destruction and chaos? I don't think so!
